Mock Ups

First thing we did was make a rough copy of our front cover and contents page, for our own magazine. We created them making sure they included a masthead, a mid shot photo and cover lines.  We had to make the magazine for a school with students aged 14-19, I thought of the name synergy because it’s another word for co-operation I decided to base it on the exam months.

I made sure the magazine had stuff in the students could relate to and would find interesting e.g. exams. My 3 colour pallet choice was to use the colours Yellow, Black and Red, I chose these colours because in if I saw these colours being used It would most likely get my attention. I had to make sure people would like the articles and the colour to go with them.

My contents page is just based on one picture because I thought it would be more striking and be more effective to read. This page will include all the pages and what is included in the magazine.
This is my front page, the picture quality is not that great so i will explian what it contains on this page, it has a masthead at the top left, a picture filling the page and coverlines on the left and right of the page.

Magazine

1. A title or masthead (goes across the right of the page, reflects the magazines style and should be over or under a photo).
2. Cover lines, to give information and use direct address.
3. The date, price and other details.
4. Special offer usually highlighted
5. Variety of fonts, colours, sizes and styles to add visual interest.
6. Cover lines/plugs/lures - to tempt the customer.
7. Use of 'direct address pronoun' to involve the user.
8. Mention celebrities to boost sales.
9. Use of 3 colour palette (reflect the target audience, and make the background stand out)
10. Mid shot photo, eye-catching image in the centre top of page.

Always remember the Most Third of the page will get most the attention so is most important!

Planning a magazine:

Magazine Final Design

Preliminary Task Evaluation

First of all I am going to say that are film went relatively well I was quite pleased on our progress. I am proud of the group and how they all dealt with the story board and how we made had a good go at trying to re-enact the storyboard. The things that I believe we did well at were how well we all worked together on planning the film out, however the slightly negative thing was how long it took us all to agree on the same thing because we all have so many different ideas. I was also happy how we had a leading roll in the group this really helped because it makes everything easy to follow and clear instead of everyone disagreeing on ideas. To improve on our next project I think we all need to focus a little more on what we need to do and try and finish a little bit faster and personally I need to research some ideas before we start recording so I can start to think like a director.

Production

When we finished the storyboards we then gave it to a different group for them to film and then we got given another groups and then we had to film there storyboards. The main goal of this was to see how informative the groups made the storyboards and how well we can follow the story boards from other groups. In my opinion I found this task a little tricky because the story board we got given was hard to follow because we weren’t really getting how the film was suppose to be acted out, so we were told to add little snippets to make it make sense.
.

Equipment -

The camera we used was to be honest quite tricky for the reason that you had to start recording a few seconds before because it had an annoying fade on it which would end up missing bits out of the film, this meant we needed a little more time for our editing.

The tripod really did help us out because it made sure the camera was still and steady and this helped us film using all the angles, though sometimes we the tripod would be slightly slanted because we didn’t set it up properly but it really is an ace bit of equipment.

In this bit of the task I filmed Rupert walking to the door and opening it; also I helped everyone get in position and directed a lot of the film with Liana’s help. Also I helped Ryan on Sony Vegas editing our clips and gave him some ideas on how to make the film a little better

Pre Production

First of all we got divided into group, we had to plan out the film before hand to make sure we were able to fit all the camera angles needed into the film. We then planned how to make the film unique and good for the audience to watch. After we all decided we would pick a scene each to design with a story board. We then used the storyboards to add all the information needed to complete the task.
So everyone made a story board of separate scenes, in my scene I made sure to put mid shots into the film and make the boring scene as interesting as I possibly could.

Preliminary Task

We Did the Preliminary task to show that we can keep continuity in our filming and that we can edit pieces of film. For this task we had to record a character opening a door, walking across a room and sitting on a chair and interacting with another character who was sat opposite.
In this task we were asked to perform shot/reverse shot, 180-degree rule and match on action shots.
In our storyboards we were asked to use shot number, camera angles, an image, lighting and music, costume, scene information.

There are plenty of camera angles for example there is a close up, extreme close up, medium shot, long shot, over the shoulder shot, shot/reverse shot and match on action.

Extreme close up is used to show a characters facial expressions to show how the character is feeling.

Over the shoulder shot/reverse shot are used to show a conversation between two characters, the camera is focused on one characters should and the others face.

Cutting/Editing

Essentials otherwise films would be in real time and never end.
It allows a director to change locations.
Main use is to either add pace to a scene to make it exciting or to shlow it down for dramatic emphasis.

Continuity

Generally refers to visual errors. In very basic terms it means having a character in a red top one second then a blue top a second later.

Close Up

Something/Someone important to show the audience then use a close up.

Medium Shot.

A medium shot is the most commonly used shot in cinema. It is used to show any character interaction.

Long Shot

When "telling" the audience where the film is set use a longshot. This lets you show all the important information. This shot is usually used at the start of films.

About Me

Hey, my names Jordan Ellis, I like to have a laugh with my friends. I have Two Dogs One A Bichion Frise (Gucci), and the other a Yorkshire Terrier cross breed (Lola). I like all type of music apart from anything that involves the singer screaming! A random selection of my favourite bands and single acts are Akala, Devlin, Linkin Park, Fort Minor and Foo Fighters. My favourite Rugby team is Leicester Tigers, I used to play second row in Rugby but had to pull out after injury. So now days instead of rugby i do MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). I was in the newspaper and was on the front page for saving a young family’s life, but I think the people on my street are the heroes for doing everything they could to help the family get out before the fire engine came. My family owns a Jet Ski and have gone on it since a young age of about nine and still go occasionally but not as much as I used to as the price of fuel has risen. When I am older I want to be in a job that tests me physically and mentally, my main goal is to get into the Police Arms Respond Unit.
